Chatham Historical Society was founded in 1950. Its objectives are to bring together those who are interested in the history and archaeology of the Medway Towns and the immediate surrounding area, and to collect and record material relating to the history of this area.

We hold monthly meetings at which guest speakers talk about subjects of historical and/or local interest. All the meetings are open to the public, and visitors are very welcome. See the Meetings webpage for details.

Membership costs just £10 a year and you are very welcome to join at any of our events. There is £1 charge for members at each meeting. Non-members are very welcome but the fee is £3 for each evening. We hope to see you soon.

Membership Subscriptions

As a result of the Covid break our membership subscriptions have become confusing with renewals due throughout the year.

At a recent committee meeting it was decided to make all annual membership subscriptions due at the same time. Renewal of membership will now become due for everybody in January of each year.

The many members who used to renew in September should have moved to January at the beginning of 2024. Those that joined or renewed in April/May 2023 will next renew their membership in January 2025.
