Chatham Historical Society's own history

The Chatham Historical Society (originally called the Chatham and District Historical Society) was formed in 1950 as the result of a proposal by Councillor James Presnail and its approval by the Council on the 1st March 1950.

Meetings were held in the Chatham Free Library on New Road until 1970, and then in the Junior Library on The Riverside. In 2004 the Society moved to St Barbara's Garrison Church Hall in Maxwell Road, Brompton, and in 2013 to the Lampard Centre in Sally Port, Brompton.
